TouchNetix Introduces AX24A – One Controller for Touch and Force
TouchNetix has expanded its aXiom portfolio with the AX24A, a compact controller that combines capacitive touch sensing and true force measurement in a single device. Designed for demanding industrial, automotive, and consumer applications, AX24A removes the traditional trade-off between touch and pressure-sensitive interfaces.
Housed in a 40-pin QFN package, AX24A supports up to 22 configurable inputs, enabling designers to implement touch, force, or hybrid buttons without external sensors or signal-processing circuitry. At its core is TouchNetix’s patented aXiom force-sensing technology, capable of detecting forces from approximately 20 grams up to 20 kilograms with high linearity and precision.
By requiring both touch and a defined press force, AX24A significantly reduces false activations caused by moisture, gloves, vibration, or accidental contact. The result is higher reliability, longer lifetime, and immediate, responsive haptic feedback—without mechanical wear.
AX24A also supports advanced internal logic, haptics, and LED control via I²C or GPIO, enabling intelligent, self-contained HMI designs with minimal processor overhead. Force-only operation allows buttons to be placed behind metal or sealed surfaces, enabling flat, robust, and water-resistant interfaces.
In addition to buttons, AX24A opens new possibilities for joysticks and control devices, delivering longer service life and consistent performance compared to mechanical solutions.
Target applications include automotive dashboards, industrial HMIs, medical devices, appliances, consumer electronics, and gaming controllers.
